Local
Crosby sports club, the Northern Club has recently won major national
recognition at the 13th annual Sports Club of the Year awards
evening held in London.
The club was placed third nationally, and picked
up a valuable cash prize of £1000. Says event organiser
Sallie Barker, ‘This year we received 176 high quality applications,
and your club can be truly proud of its achievement in being one
of the award winners.’
Club president Paul Davies comments, "We
came third in the country, top in the north west. A thoroughly
enjoyable evening, and the award justifies the efforts of many
people at the club."
The
club provides for cricket, hockey, squash and bowls, and the award
focuses particularly on Northern’s sport development programmes
and junior coaching initiatives, which include links with local
schools and open sessions aimed at introducing new participants
to club sport.
